Children's Ministry Blueprints and Foundations

Building and maintaining children’s ministries needs to be high priority for your church.  As Children’s Ministry Leaders you are either building a new “house” or renovating an existing one.  You have the solid foundation of Christ to build His church but what do the blueprints of this “house” look like? Let’s figure out your hopes and expectations and how to implement them into your ministry. Once you have the plan, you’ll go from surviving to thriving and being able to open the doors to endless possibilities to reach children for Christ.

1 Corinthians 3:10 According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it.

Here are a few definitions regarding building a house for you to consider before we begin planning how you are going to "build" your Children's Ministry.

  1. Foundation - Purpose of a foundation is to provide the structure's stability from the ground up. It is a stone or concrete structure that supports a building from underneath.
  2. Cornerstone - The cornerstone is first stone set in the building process and joins two walls together.
  3. Pillars  - A pillar (or column) is a structural element that carries the weight of the structure above to other structural elements below.
  4. Support Beams - Support Beams bridge the pillars together.
  5. Walls - Load-bearing walls bear the weight of the structure that will be built on top on the walls.

It's time to get dream again about your Children's Ministry and build it on a firm foundation!

Suggestions for your Volunteer Training Session:

  • Print a handout for each person  (PDF below)

  • Make sure to provide good food and drinks they will enjoy.

  • Watch one video, then take time to discuss it. Write down the ideas of how you could implement these concepts into your church.

  • Ask your volunteers what actions steps they would like to start this coming Sunday.

  • Follow up with the volunteer on the Monday and debrief.

How To Keep Small Church Kidmin Fresh, Fun, & Fruitful!

Have you ever felt like it doesn’t matter what curriculum you choose, you are having to adapt it to fit your small church? What if I told you that there are alternatives to the traditional curriculum that can keep your Kidmin filled with fresh creative ways for volunteers to teach God’s word, fun activities to keep kids engaged, and “good fruit” being produced in the lives of the kids and families? Come discover how short-term themes may be the solution for your demographics and unique circumstances.

Isaiah 43:18&19. Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

Are you open to trying something new?  I think you are ready if you:

1.    Add activities and personal touches to the planned lessons

2.    Find yourself thinking about your lessons when you are in stores

3.    Wondering how can you find time in the schedule to teach a principle that you never seem to have time for.

4.    You think differently on how you could teach the lesson from how it is written.

5.    Feel “boxed in” or restricted because of the printed words on the page.

It's time to try something new!

Free Course for Children's Ministry Leaders

Session 1 - From Start to Finish - Children's Ministry plan for Sunday morning in a Small Church

Your small church Children’s Ministry gathers for 45 minutes on a Sunday morning in a shared space. How do you cover all the Bible basics for Grade 1 - 6, have fun, and stay on budget? These sessions will teach you and your team how to start well, avoid the obstacles and road blocks that often can leave you feeling discouraged and frustrated and how to cross the finish line for the win! Come and learn how to start implementing these strategies this coming week and bring home a victory!

Session 2 -  Creative Teaching - Armor of God

As a Children’s Ministry Leader, you need to get creative with how we teach the Word of God so the kids will remember it.   In this session, you will experience how I teach elementary aged children why it is important to put on the Armor of God every day just like a race car driver needs to get suited up for the race and have the car in good condition for the race.

Session 3 - Volunteer Recruitment and Retention - Volunteer Traffic Circles

Traffic Circles are an effective way of moving vehicles through an intersection and provides a continuous flow of traffic. Using a Traffic Circle Model in your Children’s Ministry keeps a steady flow of high quality volunteers participating as their schedules allow and using their skills and gifts to teach God’s word to the children. Come discover this WIN/WIN solution and takeaway ideas for recruiting, relating and retaining volunteers!

Suggestions for your CM Leaders Support Sessions:

  • Print the available resource for you and your key team leaders.  (PDF below)
